Serie A often known as Serie A TIM also because of
sponsorship of TIM is professional football league for men at the top of Italy
football league system. History of Serie A dates back to 1898 in which 18 clubs
used to be the stakeholders. Nevertheless, after season 2004/5, 20 clubs
compete for the Italian title and there prevails the system of promotion and
relegation between Serie A and Serie B. The bottom three clubs gets relegated
towards Serie B and top three from Serie B are promoted towards Sirie A. Having
only 20 teams, each teams play 38 match in round robin format i.e. home and
away match which starts from August and ends at May of next year.
Serie A is known as the world's second strongest national
league and represented as the most tactical national league. It has produced
many European Cup finalists for 27 different times, and have owned trophy for
12 times. Until season 2015/16, 66 teams have competed for the title bid in the
time of 85 years. It has average stadium attendance of 22,644 where Inter Milan
had the highest stadium attendance; 45,538 followed by AS Roma(40,190) and SSC
Napoli(39,099).
Serie A have 16 champions till now which is dominated by
Juventus winning 32 times followed by Milan 18 times, Inter Milan 18, Genoa 9,
Torino 7, Bologna 7, Pro Vercelli 7, Roma 3, Lazio 2, Napoli 2, Fiorentina 2, Cagliari,
Casale, Novese, Hellas Verona, and Sampordia one time. The new TV deal is worth
943 million euro per season with three-year contract in which 40% shared
equally with all the twenty clubs and rest 60% distributed with top ten teams.
Serie A is ranked as fourth among European leagues after LA Liga, Bundesliga and Premier League which is ranked according to the performance of past five years. It is known as one of the best football leagues in the world and have three of the world's most famous club; Juventus, Milan and Internazionale and its the league in which more amount of player have won Ballon d'Or award. Therefore, Seire A is not only the best league of Italy, but is also one among the best and popular football leagues.
